Man and Boy: A Novel

Ok I'm tired... the buildup from the daily mental torture and disillusionment as I struggle to come to terms with the gazillions of trade-booking systems/databases that JP Morgan uses is too much for my tiny brain to take at this hour. Let alone trying to comprehend the exotic-ness of the Exotic (Interest Rate) Derivative trades that my team is in charge of (eg wedding cake, flipflop, ladder, callable capped floater, etc), for the ex-Japan Asia Pacific region!

Till next time...or till I read my next book!

Ok so its been awhile...let's see how I can ease myself back into the Xanga way of life...

Since I can't post all the books I have read (whilst I was in between jobs) in one single xanga entry, I'll split my dear diary segment up then.

I'm now working for JP Morgan Chase Bank in Singapore. Its located just one street behind where DBS is, so things are pretty much still the same! Middle office life is alright so far ...but the hours have a tendency to stretch longer though. oh well.

Currently reading: CFA study guides (hope I don't end up having to add them to my ever increasing list of books I don't finish reading!)

The following is not in any order of preference.

I'm finally doing one of the things that mean something to me #1: Salsa

After months of claiming that I-so-want-to-start-picking-it-up-again, I have finally signed up for a Beginners 2 course and finally feel some more life and passion in my tired veins! Even though I have so far only attended just 1 out of the 5 sessions in the course, I'm already eyeing my next goal -- Rueda!

I'm finally doing one of the things that mean something to me #2: Yoga

Ok ok, so I'm cheapo and am doing this because of a credit card promotion which entitles me to just 1 free session per month for 6 months, (and not forgetting that I make a point to make full use of their steam bath when I visit since its FOC), but who cares right? At least I'm doing something I like and at no extra cost! (well...lets not count the one-time exception when I got my first parking ticket since returning to Singapore for returning late to my car after my yoga session)

I'm finally thinking more about doing one of the things that mean something to me #3: Singing

Should I sing full time or part time? This question keeps popping into my head, even while I've yet to satisfy my amateurish ambitions!

On another note, I had only just returned home from my second visit to Jakarta for one day, when the second biggest earthquake this year hit Indonesia again. Can't help but wonder if I'm a jinx. Guess I will find out after my third visit sometime in the future if the current 100% correlation between my visits and earthquake occurences stays true. Maybe next time a volcano will erupt? *shudder*

On yet another note, I had a particularly rotten afternoon this past week when someone at work called me up to complain about yours truly for the second time. I took it absolutely personally for the second time, but blew up and broke down this time.  *sigh* I'm still pissed recalling it. Wonder how I will perform the next time he complains. In light of the incident, I rebounded today and actually felt good being mildly piss-y at work. Oh dear.

The New Market Wizards : Conversations with America's Top Traders

I quite like my new job. I'm now working as an assistant to the traders at the Credit (aka Fixed Income) desk at DBS Bank in Singapore. I roughly work from 8am-7pm with a 2hour lunch break, and each hour/day/week/month in the busy dealing room just whizzes by so quickly.  All that buzz, hype, speed, cursing, occasional running....I like....

On another note, I was in Jakarta on boxing day. I still remember waking up after just 5.5 hours of sleep (I need 8), strangely not being able to sleep any longer, at about 7am. I went to the window and saw the brilliant sun rising into the sky, and decided to take a couple of last minute photographs of the bit of Jakarta that I could see from my hotel room window, to make up for my photographic inactivity for the past two days. Little was I aware of the tragic events that unfolded soon after...hmm...thank goodness for Sumatra island?
